TRAINING PATHWAYS

Pathway 1: School-based traineeships

To access a subsidised training place, a student must meet the following criteria:

  • be enrolled in Year 10, 11, or 12 in a Queensland Schools

  • be currently employed as a Queensland School Based trainee

  • be an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident or a temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen.

ABOUT YOUR TRAINING

Qualification: CPP41721 Certificate IV in Surveying and Spatial Information Services (Surveying)

Duration: 2 years for school-based traineeships; 1 year for traineeships

Delivery mode: Online and in your workplace

School-based traineeships
Fee-free for eligible school-based traineeship students.

COURSE FEES

Student co-contribution fees
The student co-contribution fee is your contribution toward the cost of training and assessment. The exact fee depends on the approved training offering and your concession or exemption status. Payment plans may be available.

Concessional: $582.40

Non-concessional: $1,456 payable over 12 months

If an apprentice/trainee is experiencing serious financial difficulties and can demonstrate this, they may qualify for a full fee exemption.

Concession: under 17 years of age at the end of February in the year training is provided, is not at school and has not completed Year 12; or holds concessional status as defined by the SAS policy.

WHAT YOU'LL COMPLETE

Traineeships

Eligible students will be partially funded by the Department of Trade, Employment and Training’s (DTET) Career Boost program. Student and Employer co-contribution fees are applicable as per below.

To earn your qualification, you'll demonstrate competency across 15 units:

  • 3 core units

  • 12 elective units

CORE UNITS

  • CPPSSI3020 Perform simple surveying and spatial computations

  • CPPSSI4025 Collect spatial data using GNSS

  • CPPSSI4036 Operate spatial software applications

ELECTIVE UNITS

  • CPPSSI3019 Produce basic plans of surveys

  • CPPSSI4030 Operate surveying equipment

  • CPPSSI4031 Perform surveying computations

  • CPPSSI4037 Produce computer-aided drawings

  • CPPSSI4040 Collect spatial data using a total station

  • CPPSSI4041 Set out site and building works

  • CPPSSI3011 Produce basic maps

  • CPPSSI4038 Prepare and present GIS data

  • CPPSSI5060 Develop spreadsheets for spatial data

  • MEM30012 Apply mathematical techniques in a manufacturing engineering or related environment

  • PSPLND001 Investigate tenure and land use history

  • BSBWHS414 Contribute to WHS risk management

STUDENT SURVEYS

Eligible students must meet the following criteria:

  • be aged 15 years or older;

  • be a permanent Queensland resident;

  • be an Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident or a temporary resident with the right visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency, or a New Zealand citizen;

  • not be a school student;

  • be currently employed as a Queensland apprentice or trainee (under a registered training contract) in an eligible apprenticeship or traineeship qualification funded through this program;

  • not be enrolled in another DTET-funded qualification, even if it is on hold or deferred;

  • not have already completed two government-funded apprenticeship/traineeship qualifications (including SATs) within the last 10 years immediately preceding the individual’s enrolment.

The employer co-contribution fee is the contribution toward the cost of training and assessment. Payment plans may be available.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

Pathway 2: Traineeships

COMPLAINTS AND APPEALS

Students have the right to lodge complaints and appeals. Complaints may relate to:

  • Training

  • Assessment

  • Fees

  • Student services

  • Staff conduct

Complaints will be handled fairly, confidentially and promptly.

Students will need a USI Number, access to a computer (with video and audio capabilities), Microsoft Office or equivalent, internet access, a scientific calculator, and a mobile device for practical evidence collection.

This course requires that the student complete approximately 10-hours of self directed learning per week over and above the online training as well as their practical field work.
